The figures suggest that around 400 million people see Spanish as their first language throughout the world. This doesn’t count the people that count themselves as bilingual Spanish speakers as is the case with many people in the United states. Indeed, Spanish is effectively the second language of the United States and in some states it is used as frequently as English.
Audio courses are a good way to learn Spanish. They can come on CD or Mp3 format. This article will cover why audio course are a good way to learn to speak Spanish.
If you have searched around for a Spanish language course, I would say that your first consideration is that it has an audio component to it.
When it comes down to the nitty-gritty, you learn a language to talk to people. Whether this is via a business or social interaction, you use language to receive and give views on a particular topic. People like to talk.
The other aspects of learning a language, like reading and writing are important aspects of any language of course, but I would suggest they are not as important as being able to talk. This point is proved by when you learned your mother tongue. You learned to speak before the other parts of the language.
So talking is the most important skill to have. Ironically, it is also the hardest part of learning a language because you have to perfect a number of skills.
So, speaking involves pronouncing words and understanding a flurry of words spoken back at you. These are hard skills to get down, especially when you have to do it quickly to keep a conversation going.
Spanish audio CDs or Mp3’s give you the opportunity to learn and practice these core skills without the pressure of talking to another person. You can use many of these courses wherever you want.
Many people choose to listen to them in the car when they are going to or coming from work each day. This makes sense to some extent because there is nothing more frustrating as being stuck in traffic for a couple of hours each day.
However, it is debatable whether you can give your full concentration to the course while driving at the same time. Many courses advise against doing this but in my experience you can do it if you have listened to the CD many times and just want to touch up some of your knowledge.
A typical audio course will have about 30 to 50 individual lessons. Each lesson could last up to 30 minutes. The basic format is to listen and then repeat what you hear. this helps you to get your pronunciation right. Each lesson will involve some instruction but the key is to speak after the teacher. Most courses try to get a beginner through intermediate to an advanced level.
Advanced level pretty much means being able to ask basic questions, understand the repsonse and then say something in response. It doesn’t mean fluent Spanish. This requires far more practice, including learning more grammar, turns of phrase and speaking to native speakers.
As an aside, an important skill along with the core language skills is being confident about speaking to native Spanish speakers. Once you get this confidence your Spanish will come on in leaps and bounds. With this said, a learn Spanish audio course is a good place to start you language learning.
