Travel More with LMS Online Courseware

According to a report by the U.S. Department of Education, only 8.6 out of every 100 university credits achieved by U.S. students are for foreign language acquisition, despite the growing use of LMS online language programs.Compare that figure to the 56% of Europeans who are at ease with at least one other language, according to a recent Eurobarometer survey. It’s unfortunate: the U.S. is lagging far behind other countries in second-language acquisition.

We are one of the richest countries on the planet, with access to the finest and most innovative technology. Considering this fact, why aren’t more Americans capitalizing on language acquisition resources such as online and in-person tutors, and university and LMS online language courses?

Of course, LMS online language courses are unique. Unlike many other topics which survive on paper, language needs to come off the page, into the student’s head, and out of the mouth–often.

To fully master a language, a great deal of word and sound repetition  is required.Even though an online course can ask learners to listen to and repeat sounds and phrases, without anyone there to listen, a student may not be pronouncing correctly.

Therefore, a blended learning environment works best for language acquisition. And truly, most e-learning works best with complemented by face-to-face education.

When used in blended learning, LMS online language courses can be truly efficient. Particularly for high schools, LMS online language courses help solve many problems facing schools today, such as: scant language course offerings, language teacher shortages, a lack of interest in traditional language acquisition, the rise in home-schooling and lack of AP classes in some areas, and the lack of physical space and funding. In school districts across the country, the budget cuts are forecasted to carry a heavy impact.

LMS online language courses can help foster the confidence of shy students when interaction with other students is online and required. Language students have a range of collaborative tools available to them online in the form of screen and audio recordings, LMSs, podcasts, discussion forums and VoIP services.
